Rite of Christian Initiation

RCIA -- Rite of Christian Initiation

Initiation means what?  To begin, to start, inaugurate, install, induct, officially becoming a member – to invest oneself.

Why the Catholic Church?

Why now?

Initiation in the Church is through the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

Process is a journey that in the ideal is started formally in September and is completed with reception of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil.

I was looking for God.

And so I left behind my family,

My job, my community and set out.

First I went to a church,

But I did not meet God in the church.

Next I retreated to a monastery, but I did not meet God in the monastery.

Then I made a pilgrimage to the holy sites,

But I did not discover God in the holy sites.

Discouraged, I returned home.

As I hugged my family,

I felt the presence of God.

When I resumed my job,

I perceived God’s guiding hand in my work.

In the midst of involvement in my community,

I realized that God was there with me.

In awe,

I hid my face in my cloak.
