OUR 2009 MISSION TRIP WAS AS FUN & REWARDING AS WE HAD HOPED!!! |
| We got up at 7am everyone morning for a short prayer service. We than had a quick breakfast as some of us had to leave by 7:30 to our jobsites. We rotated jobs among four groups that I assigned. Four teens in each. We did alot of painting, put the finishing touches on two Habitat for Humanity houses. We worked at the Habitat for Humanity Resale shop which supplied donated items at minimal cost - the proceeds of which went to Habitat. Picked beans in a garden that supplied a food pantry with fresh food. Worked in a food pantry that served about 200 plus meals every day. Helped an elderly woman pack up, box, landscape, paint (again) and tear up carpeting so that she could sell her house and move into assisted living. She was on a type of welfare. We also chopped wood and put in insulation. Oh and we painted. A group always stayed behind to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for the groups that were out. They also helped our hosts with any type of work that needed to be done on the 30 plus acres that we stayed on. In the evenings we swam, played wiffle ball, volleyball, basketball and after our prayer service at night - played alot of party games. My team being, of course, the masters at Charades!!!! |
